In my artistic practice, I explore the intersection of art history, feminism, and queer identity, creating vibrant, tactile paintings that celebrate the beauty of diversity and self-expression. From my base in the vibrant cultural landscape of Oakland, California, I draw inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelite movement, known for its lush imagery and idealized representations of women. However, my work diverges from this historical context, reimagining these themes through a contemporary lens that honors the complexities of queer identity and the dynamic presence of marginalized voices.

Central to my practice is the use of glitter and glue—two materials that serve not only as my primary mediums but also as metaphors for queer culture. Glitter, with its shimmering, iridescent quality, evokes a sense of joy, transformation, and celebration. It embodies the exuberance of queer visibility while simultaneously highlighting the fragility of these identities in a world that often seeks to diminish them. In my work, glitter becomes a vehicle for expressing the vibrancy of life, a reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places, and a tool to reclaim narratives historically dominated by conventional ideals.

The subjects of my paintings are a diverse group of tattooed, genderfluid individuals who defy traditional notions of beauty and representation. By positioning these figures as the focal point of my reinterpretation of Pre-Raphaelite imagery, I challenge the historical tropes that have often sidelined those who fall outside normative definitions of gender and beauty.  The lush floral motifs represent not just the natural world but also the flourishing of diverse identities and experiences. They serve as a reminder of the strength found in community and the importance of nurturing oneself and others. Flowing drapery mirrors the complexity of gender expression, embodying both the weight and lightness of existence in a world that can be both beautiful and oppressive.

Ultimately, my work stands as a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of queer life—a life that thrives on authenticity, creativity, and the unyielding pursuit of joy. In the shimmering interplay of glitter and glue, I find a language that speaks to the heart of who we are and who we can become, inviting all to join in this radiant celebration of existence.
